My ancestor, Elie Villat dit Beausoleil, was born in France around 1709. Near the time of his death he was a caporal at the Trois-Rivieres garrison. I am trying to determine if his Beausoleil may have been a nom de guerre or a reflection of his origin (Beausoleil region). It would help is there were manifests showing the arrival of companies of men to the still relatively new region. There was also a Beausoleil company that was situated in the Carribbean mid 1600s. Any help would be appreaciated. Elie died at l'Hopital General de Quebec in 1760 and is buried in their cemetery.
