Francis (Frank) Haszard Leigh-Spencer It is with sadness that his family announces the passing of their husband, father, and papa on November 6, 2000. His loving wife Ann of 54 years cared for him during his short and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his daughter Sue and David (Hicks) of Winnipeg; daughter Sally and Brian (Thacker) of Duncan; son Peter and Marjory of Edmonton; grandchildren, Caeley, Lindsay and Colin and sister Dorothy Robertson of Salt Spring Island. He is predeceased by brothers, O. L. (Bill) and Gerald of Vancouver. Frank was born in Calgary in 1917 and served in the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. His career spanning four decades in Public Relations for Canadian Pacific Railway, Canadian Pacific Airlines and Imperial Oil Ltd., took him from coast to coast. He will be well remembered through his affiliation he enjoyed with the weekly newspapers. He and Ann retired to Nanaimo and then to Salt Spring Island. Frank was foremost a gentleman and throughout his life enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, boating, and golf. He followed in the tradition established by his father of supporting Ducks Unlimited and was an active member of the Power Squadron. He leaves us fond memories as a husband and father who gave his unconditional love and a grandfather who spent many happy hours building timeless wooden toys and furniture for his three grandchildren. His family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Lady Minto Hospital and the Central Home Care staff for their special care and compassion. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Frank Leigh-Spencer to the St. Marks Anglican Church Restoration at 110 Park Dr., Salt Spring Island, BC V8K 2R7.
