Clapp, Doreen (nee Cunliffe) April 2, 1935 - March 11, 2018 It is with great sadness that our family confirms the death of Doreen Clapp at age 82. Mom passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her brother Roy (Mitty) Cunliffe of Australia, her sister Elaine (Rod) Macleod of Edmonton, and her three children Greg (Janis) Clapp, Bruce (Darcey) Clapp, and Lynn (Marc) Joly, three grandchildren Jordan, Kyle and Richelle, and many nieces and nephews. Doreen was predeceased by her husband Stan in 2002, after 46 years of marriage. Doreen was born in Calgary, Alberta, the daughter of Roy Atherton Cunliffe and Martha Olive Knight. As the daughter of a banker, her family moved frequently. After moving to Ponoka she met Stan and these high school sweethearts married a few years later. Her work career began as a secretary in the oil and gas industry and later she worked for many years in Innisfail, where she and Stan raised their family. She learned to golf, camp, fish, hike and hunt with dad, and grew to simply love the outdoors and mountains. Many family memories were made at her favorite place-Baker Creek. Sometime after the age 60, she started to workout at the Juan de Fuca gym and fitness became a big part of her life. She was active at the Seniors Centre, making many wonderful friends. It has been such a privilege to meet and talk with her large circle of dear friends. Thanks for your love, visits, calls and notes. In the past decade, mom found a new love and together they travelled and enjoyed special times together. Mom was healthy and active until her cancer diagnosis this past September. Our family would like to thank the incredible network of staff within VIHA. Mom received amazing care from the time of her surgery, recovery, her many months at home, and final days in hospice. A celebration of life will take place at the Juan de Fuca Seniors Centre, on Sunday, April 15th at 2:00pm. A family celebration will occur in the summer in the mountains she loved so much. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria Hospice Society. Published in Victoria Times Colonist from Mar. 16 to Mar. 17, 2018
