Gordon Herbert Forbes, of Victoria, BC died on March 10, 2018 at age 93. He is survived by his loving wife Linda, daughter Diane (Moe), sons Lawrence and Dennis (Marjorie) along with grandchildren Ryan, Michelle, Leah and Rachel. Gord, born in Parksville, BC on August 8, 1924, joined the army when he was 18 and was a front-line veteran of the Italian and Northwestern campaigns in World War II, serving in the tank unit of the 42nd BC Dragoons regiment. Upon returning from overseas, he met Linda, originally from Oakland, California at a charity softball game in James Bay and they married in 1948. He spent 40 years in the radio and newspaper business, retiring from the Times-Colonist in 1987 after starting as a copy runner and advancing to associate city editor. In retirement he enjoyed golf, RV'ing and winters in the California desert. Gord and his family were grateful for the wonderful, compassionate care he received from the staff at the Veteran's Memorial Lodge at Broadmead. There will be no funeral service at his request.
