Highsted, Edith (Edie) (nee Halstead) March 4, 1925 - March 15, 2018 Edie passed away peacefully at The Heights in Victoria. She was born and raised in Vancouver. From 1942-1945, she served with the RCAF (Women's Division) as a communications operator. Right to the end, she could rattle off her service number, always remembering to add Sir!. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Carl. They were together for 58 years until Carl's passing in 2008. Edie was so proud to be a stay-at-home mum, nurturing her four children and giving them a good start in life. Edie was a woman of great love and generosity, both of which she showered on her growing family and large circle of friends. She enjoyed being with people and shared so many meals and happy times with all in her company. Sunday nights of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding are fondly remembered by her children. Throughout the years, Edie was an active member of numerous benevolent organizations, including St. George's Anglican Church Guild, and PEO, a sisterhood promoting educational opportunities for women worldwide. Left with loving memories of a wonderful mother and the grandest of Grans are her children David (Iris), Jean (Frants), Jim (Barb), and Don (Kim), 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Many thanks to the staff at The Heights and Oak Bay Lodge (Dogwood 2) for their warm and gentle care. A heartfelt thanks to Edie's special friend, Elaine, for her companionship, and to her long-time friend, Linnea, for her steadfast support. A Memorial Service for Edie will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 3821 Cedar Hill Cross Road, Victoria, BC on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of BC. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com. Be still. Close your eyes. Breathe. Listen for my footfall in your heart. I am not gone but merely walk within you.
