Carol Ann Nicholson February 21, 2018 Carol Ann Nicholson 1940-2018 Carol Ann Nicholson, of Fredericton, NB, died peacefully in her sleep at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital, on the morning of February 21, 2018. She was born in St Alban's, Vermont, on October 15, 1940, the elder daughter of Daniel and Millicent Obliskey. She was predeceased by her parents. Carol Ann is survived by her son, Andrew Nicholson (Marianne) of Prince William, NB, and by her daughter, Amanda Beach (Brian) of Fredericton, her three grandchildren Cameron, Sadie, and Cole Nicholson, and her former husband, David Nicholson, as well as brother-in-law Fred Nicholson, and several nieces and nephews. Carol Ann attended high school in Calais, Maine, and studied Journalism at the University of Maine where she was awarded a U. S. Senate Fellowship, in Senator Ed Muskie's Washington, DC. office. Following graduation, she was employed for three years in the Senator's office. Despite becoming a Canadian citizen following her marriage to David, she remained deeply interested and extremely knowledgeable in American politics and current affairs. Carol Ann lived in Fredericton during the 1970's and returned in 2015 after time spent living, working and raising her family in St. Stephen NB. Her work included being a newspaper journalist for the St. Croix Courier and then the Calais Advertiser, a broadcaster, a freelance writer, and a teacher. In Fredericton she had been the research chief for the Historical Resource Administration and a political consultant in the office of Premier Richard Hatfield. She was avidly interested in women's issues, being a founder and serving on the board of Fundy Region Transition House in St. Stephen for 35 years. She was a news junkie, a politics and history buff, a consistent swimmer, a gardener, a constant reader and a warm, loving and caring friend. Her enthusiasms included dogs, cats, good coffee, ideas, long conversations and most importantly, her children. Carol Ann will be deeply missed. In accordance with Carol Ann's wishes, there will be no visitation or service at this time.
