Anne-Lis Mathisen April 13, 1955 - June 27, 2019 Mathisen, Anne-Lis - On June 27th, 2019 Anne-Lis Mathisen, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre in St. John\u0027s, Newfoundland, at the age of 64. Anne-Lis was born in Fredericton, NB, on April 13th, 1955 and grew up there until the age of 13 when she moved with her family to Churchill Falls, Labrador and then Montreal where she attended boarding school. She graduated from Fredericton High School in 1973 and was then accepted into Memorial University where she studied Marine Biology, graduating in 1978. She fell in love with Newfoundland and the people, and made St. John\u0027s as well as Port au Port her home for many years. She worked as an international fisheries observer upon completion of university and later with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in various roles. Anne-Lis was an avid reader with many creative interests and talents. In recent years she painted with oils and water colour and produced many lovely pieces. She enjoyed singing and was an active member of Let\u0027s Make a Choir, as well as an enthusiastic hiker, regularly trekking along the coastline with friends admiring nature. Anne-Lis was predeceased by her parents, Rolf Mathisen and Agnes (Pedersen) Mathisen, and is survived by her siblings, Carl (Yannick Ozeel) Mathisen and their children Alexandra and Daniel of Fredericton NB, Brit (Greg Jansen) Mathisen, and their daughter Lisa, of Bridgewater NS, and Nils (Sondra Ramirez) Mathisen of Perth, Australia, as well as close friends Paulette Campbell, Jeannie Harding and John Kennedy, Christine Blundon and Ron Fitzgerald and their son Nelson, all of St. John\u0027s. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at Barrett\u0027s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at 2:00pm and will be followed by a reception at Barrett's Reception Centre, where we can get together and remember Anne-Lis. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care provided by staff at the Palliative Care Unit of the Miller Centre, as well as the medical and support staff at the Health Sciences Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Palliative Care Unit, Dr. L. A. Miller Centre, St. John's, NL.
