Ferguson, James Alexander - of St. Thomas (North Yarmouth), passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018, at the age of 80 years. Beloved husband and life partner (57 years) of Kathryn 'Kathy' (Burgess) Ferguson. Dearly loved father of J. Scott Ferguson (Sandy), Deborah M. Ferguson-Newman (Ken Patterson), the late Alexander D. Ferguson (Tammy Shepley-Ferguson) and Currie J. Ferguson (Tammy). Cherished grandfather of Julia M. Ferguson, Adam J. Szczechura, Jacob J. Szczechura, Nicholas B. Newman, Cynthia J. Newman, Alexander Kyle Ferguson, Michaela A. Ferguson, Braiden C. Ferguson, Jenna I. Ferguson and Darren J. Ferguson and great-grandfather of Carter, Nyla, Isaac and Coraline. Dear brother of Phyllis Marilyn Ferguson and the late Julia Ann Ferguson. Lovingly remembered by his Godchildren, Jeremy Locke and Jennifer Fraser, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. James was born in St. Thomas on October 16th, 1937 son of the late Alexander and Julia (Newson) Ferguson. Jim was a hard-working farmer who loved his community. He was a long-time member and former Elder at St. James Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of Freemasons Lodge No. 44 and a Shriner through Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. For many years Jim enjoyed curling. As an avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing at Knott's hunt camp and the Ferguson cabin. He also had a passion for wood working, making trains and doll houses for his grandchildren. Traveling across Canada and the United States fulfilled his curiosity and understanding of agriculture in the small farming communities. He especially enjoyed the 10 years he and Kathy spent wintering in Texas forming long lasting friendships. A memorial celebration of James' life will be held at St. James Presbyterian Church, 44936 Ferguson Line, St. Thomas on Saturday, October 6th with visitation at 12:30 - 1:30 pm and service at 2:00 pm. Cremation has taken place with private interment of ashes in St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or to St. James Presbyterian Church. Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas in charge of arrangements.
