McWilliams, Neill Hugh September 8, 1929 - January 6, 2018 It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Neill, a retired Ibmer, at Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay, Ontario in his 89th year. Happily married to Freda (nee Rollins) for 63 years. Father of Helen (Bruce), Brian and Gord. Grandfather to Brianne, Shannon, Alex and Marissa. Predeceased by his brothers George, David, 'Brien and Allen. Neill will be remembered for his passion for a few things: IBM, a feisty argument, golf and soccer or maybe just all things sports. It was a common thing when Brian and Gord were young to see Neill following the soccer play by jogging up and down the sidelines. On that theme, Neill was a familiar sight at the various regional golf courses as he played working to improve his handicap. While sports were a passion, the true love of his life was his wife Freda. They were teenagers when they met in hometown Bangor, Northern Ireland through their common church home. They married in 1954 and embarked on a life of adventure by moving to Canada far from family. This adventure included a 4 year assignment in Mumbai, India. Thanks to a longtime career at IBM Canada Ltd which encompassed manufacturing (now Celestica International Inc.), IRD (remember those punch cards) and then his final group, where he was known as Mr. Distribution, he had an opportunity to see the world and where possible he shared that with Freda. I don't think he realized that his dream of a consolidated IBM Distribution Centre in Markham at 14th Avenue would have such an impact on the town but soon after completion, 3500, 3600 Steeles and Warden sites were on their way. He was proud of that vision that came to life through the late 70s. He believed in the IBM principles and always spoke that a manager's strength was their people. He retired after 38 years in 1990. The family would like to thank the congregation and staff at Cambridge Street United Church, who through their words and actions are the embodiment of kindness and care, also the staff at Ross Memorial Hospital who were so attentive in their care of our father but also their focus on our mother during this time. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of Celebration of Life at 12:00 p.m. at Cambridge Street United Church, 61 Cambridge St. N., Lindsay, Ontario (705-324-3547) on Saturday, January 13, 2018. If desired, memorial donations in lieu of flowers to Cambridge Street United Church or Ross Memorial Hospital. Online condolences may be made at Funeral Home Mackey Funeral Home Inc. 33 Peel Street Lindsay, ON K9V 3L9 (705) 328-2721 Published in the Toronto Star on Jan. 10, 2018
