Arthur Taylor Blades 1926-2018 On March 15, 2018 Arthur passed away peacefully in Victoria, B. C. Arthur was predeceased by his beloved wife Edythe in 2009. He will be deeply missed by his brother Herbert (Yvonne), children Carol Harasym (Terry), Mary and David (Aura Lee); grandchildren Jessica O'Byrne (Kelly), Danica Hewer (Jordan) and great grandchildren Grace and Lily O'Byrne. Arthur will be fondly remembered by his family and many friends. Born in Milton, Ontario, the youngest of three brothers, he graduated with a PhD in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1952. After completing a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the National Research Council he joined the Alberta Research Council in 1955. Upon retiring he continued following his passion for research in chemistry and mass spectrometry at the University of Alberta until the age of 80. His lifelong interests included skiing, cycling, hiking, gardening, insect rearing, Morris Dancing, and English Country Dancing. He loved the outdoors and the natural world and shared his joy in living and enthusiasm for all these pursuits with friends and family. His gentle disposition, patience, understanding and determination belied his wit and dry humour. Arthur's physical stamina and perceptive mind kept those who knew him working hard to keep up with him physically and mentally.
