Burstyn, Isadore July 2, 2019 Issy Burstyn, affectionately known as Zee, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on July 2, 2019 in the warmth and comfort of his family home surrounded by his beloved children and grandchildren. Born 1929 in Otwock, Poland, Issy immigrated to Canada as an orphaned refugee from war torn Europe in 1948, the only Holocaust survivor of his immediate and extended family. His courage, strength, resilience and zest for life are a testament to his character and the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind. Issy was predeceased by his wife Florence 18 years ago. They met and were married in Edmonton in 1955. Together, they built a successful business, Vogue Shoes, raised three children and were active and respected members of the Edmonton Jewish community and community at large. Issy's signature white hair, colourful personality, stylish flair and vibrant, ageless spirit will be dearly missed and forever remembered, especially by his daughters Nora Lyman (Lawrie), Lily Lister (Bill), son Shawn, grandchildren Sheena Lister (Amelia), Zack Lister, Daniella Lyman, Jesse Lyman (Jason). Special thanks to Zee's amazing team of bubales for their compassionate and loving care. Donations in Issy's memory are gratefully accepted to The Isadore Burstyn Holocaust Education Fund: 780-487-0585 ext 202. Funeral to be held Wednesday, July 3 at 3:00 p.m. at The Edmonton Jewish Cemetery Chapel: 7622 101 avenue. Published on July 3, 2019 in The Edmonton Journal, AB
