TORRANCE, Alida (Adam) January 1903 - December 2006 Peacefully, in her 104th year while listening to her favourite classical music, Alida passed away on December 17, 2006. Alida lived life to the fullest travelling to many parts of the world, attending concerts and dinner parties with her numerous friends and swimming daily until her 90's. Born in Wolynia Russia on January 22, 1903 to parents Samuel Adam and Emilia Kongas. Alida travelled to Canada with her sister Olga aboard the Empress of Scotland on October 15, 1927. After obtaining her nursing degree she married Edgerton Torrance a lawyer and a member of the Ontario Legislature. Alida remained a dedicated registered nurse until her 70's when she continued to volunteer with the CNIB. Alida remained in Toronto until she was 98 when she moved to Ottawa to be closer to her family. Alida, second youngest of 12 children is predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters, her husband Edgerton (1949) and her only child Tom Robert (1990). She is survived by her three caring grandchildren Jeff (Dodie), Julie and Laurie Torrance (Don Trowell), her two great-grandchildren Adam Babineau and Alexandra Torrance and by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the caring nurses and HCA's on the 3rd floor at West End Villa with special thanks to Stephania. Alida has requested her body be donated to the anatomy dept. at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. Cremation and a private family service to follow.
