Turner, Phyllis Gertrude Age 95, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on March 15, 2018 at Kiwanis Pavilion in Victoria, BC. Her firm belief in Jesus Christ sustained her and supported her through her struggles and gave her peace. Phyllis was born on January 16, 1923, on the family farm in Grafton, Nova Scotia, to Milford and Myrtle Pierce. After Phyllis completed her formal education, she moved to Halifax where she worked for the Royal Bank and the Red Cross. In 1953, Phyllis married Paul Turner and together they raised two daughters, Jo-Ellen (Joey) and Janey. In 1966, the family moved from Nova Scotia to Victoria where they became active members of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband Paul Turner, daughter Janey (Alan Schroeder), grandson Matt Bingham (Caitlin), granddaughter Laura Thiessen (Curtis) and five great-grandchildren: Sam and Seth Bingham, and Ryan, Owen and Charlotte Thiessen. She was predeceased by her parents, by three older sisters, Margaret, Verna, and Helena, a younger brother, Herman, and by her eldest daughter, Joey Haynes in 1994. In her younger years, Phyllis was a talented athlete who excelled in softball and badminton, She was a devoted wife, a doting mother and grandmother, a consummate homemaker, an accomplished cook, seamstress, and knitter. She was also known for her sharp wit. For many years, Phyllis' daughter Janey called her Little Mommy because she was the best little mommy ever. Phyllis was a gentle soul who lived for her family. She had many lifelong friends, a testament to her unwavering commitment and loyalty. A service to celebrate the life of Phyllis Turner will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2121 Cedar Hill X Rd., on March 23, at 2 p.m. Special thanks to the staff of Unit 1B at Kiwanis Pavilion for more than 4 years of loving care given to Phyllis.
