Richard (Dick) Alexander Grant Keith 1929 - 2018 It is with great sadness the family of Richard Dick Alexander Grant Keith (Captain) announce his passing on Sunday, March 18, 2018, in Winnipeg, MB, after a long battle with cancer. Richard will be lovingly remembered by June, his wife of 61 years, his children David (Pamela) and Laurie (Pierre), his grandchildren Natasha (Todd), Stephanie (Calvin), Amber-Jean (Christopher), and great-grandchildren David, Shylynn, Haakon, Ryden, Tyleen, Tyrell, Alex, Wyatt and Brody. Richard was predeceased by his daughter Vicki Marlene Keith. Richard was a kind, true gentleman, a compassionate and caring soul, a great storyteller, and an amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband. Richard was born in Ottawa, Ontario. He enlisted in the R. C. A. F. In 1950 and flew nationally and internationally as the Captain of 15 different aircraft with almost 10, 000 hours of flying time, until his first retirement in 1973. Richard moved on to the private sector as a commercial pilot for several years flying for TransAir before joining the Department of Transportation in 1975 as Regional Director, retiring in 1989. He flew alongside blue whales off the Vancouver coast, soared high enough to see the sky go black in the middle of the day and the sun shine bright at midnight. He visited all the continents with the exception of the Antarctic, crossed the equator and zoomed over the North Pole. He safaried in Africa, visited Buddhist temples in Thailand, traded stamps with Chinese border guards, skied the Swiss Alps, swam the tepid waters of Northern Norway, haggled over prices in a Cyprus market, brought emergency food and equipment to Peru and participated in a Japanese tea service. But Richard was always happy to come home to his family and appreciated being a Canadian. He always felt he had accomplished all his life's dreams. A private family service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
