Darlyne Kornelson June 22, 1946 - June 2, 2019 Darlyne Kornelson passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 72, at her son's home in Winnipeg, MB. Born in Emo, Ontario to parents Lorne and Cecilia Hodson, she was raised in a bush camp along with her brothers, Kent and Ed. She left Emo to attend hair dressing school and began working at the Hudson Bay Company. It was there that she met a persistent gentleman who eventually won her over. She married William (Bill) Kornelson in March 21, 1965. When Bill passed away at a young age, Darlyne became a widow at age 36 and a single mother to their five children. She carried on and carved out a rewarding life that revolved around being a mother to Deborah, Cheryl, Julie, Barry and Tiffany. Darlyne was highly creative and resourceful. She loved music and the arts. She was not only a patient audience to many beginner piano, voice and band instrument lessons and concerts, she was the biggest fan. Somehow she never seemed to get tired of the various renditions if Hot Cross Buns and would rave that it was the first time she had heard it quite that way. She created a home that was full of laughter. She loved to laugh, she loved to be silly, she fully embraced her individuality. She would laugh at her own jokes, and since her laugh was contagious, before you knew it you would be laughing too. Even if you didn't get the joke. She was a true social butterfly. She was that person who would strike up conversations with everyone in line at the grocery store. She had natural curiosity of all people and wanted to hear everybody's story. Even as memory began to fade, she would reminisce about what's his name and you know, that girl. The names may have escaped her, but the stories remained vivid, because it was the stories others shared with her that were too valuable to forget. Her greatest passion however, was being a Grandma. Her seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren could do no wrong. Every conversation would inevitably lead to stories (or bragging) about these nine most perfect human beings. Visiting with her Grandchildren was the absolute highlight of any day and gatherings with as many of them that could attend were her most treasured moments. Darlyne was predeceased by her parents and her husband. She is survived by those who will cherish her memory, her children Deborah Turkitch, Cheryl Kornelson, Julie Kornelson, Barry Kornelson and Tiffany (Darren) Blanchard. Her grandchildren Richard (Coby) Nieuwkerk, Katelyn Bartnick (Tyler Baxter), Michelle Kornelson (Brendan Chomyshen), Tristan Kozak (Alicia Gauthier), Hayden Kozak, Jonathan Turkitch, Frankie Turkitch and great grandchildren Abigail Baxter and Declan Chomyshen. Her brother Ed and Kent Hodson as well as many nieces, nephews and those we adopted as family throughout the years. In honouring Mom's final wishes, a private family gathering will be held at a later date. Published on June 6, 2019 in The Winnipeg Sun, MB
