Douglas Small February 28, 1927 - March 04, 2019 Small - John Douglas (Doug) passed away on March 4, 2019 at Destin, Florida, at the age of 92. He is survived by his loving wife Joan; his son John (Kim) Small of Saskatoon; his stepdaughter Susan (Scott) Lane of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; his stepson Bruce Ward; as well as his grandson Ian Small and step-grandchildren Travis Ritchie; Christopher, Brian and Samantha Lane; and Logan Ward. His sister, Lenora Smith, and sister-in-law, Ellan Porter, of Saskatoon also survive him. Doug was born at Rouleau, Saskatchewan, on February 28, 1927, to Joan and Chester Small, and started school at Wilcox. In 1937, his family moved to Saltcoats, Saskatchewan, where he completed his education, and then worked at various jobs. In April 1950, he began his employment career at SaskTel in Saskatoon and retired in June 1983. Doug married Margaret Helen Smith in 1953. In 1971, Doug and Joan Louise Porter Ward were married. In 1989, Doug and Joan began living fulltime in several motorhomes and toured all of Canada, the United States, most of Mexico and some Central American countries. They settled down again in 1998 in Houston, Texas. In 2003, Doug and Joan built a home at Meadow Creek Golf Club in Mission, Texas, In 2017, they moved to a condo at Sandpiper Cove, Destin, Florida. At Doug's request, there will be no funeral. He donated his body to MedCure for medical research, education and cremation. His cremains will be interred at a later date.
