Walter F. Ayers October 10, 1926 - January 6, 2018 On Saturday, January 6, 2018, Walter Ayers, Indian Head, SK died at the age of 91 years. A family graveside service will be held in Indian Head Cemetery a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.tubmanfh.com Published in The Regina Leader-Post on Jan. 8, 2018 --- Walter Ayers October 10, 1926 - January 6, 2018 Ayers, Walter F. of Indian Head Saskatchewan passed away January 6th at the age of 91 years. Walter was born in Brighton, England on October 10th 1926. He arrived in Halifax, Canada aboard the S. S. Arabic on April 10, 1927 along with his mother and father. The family soon settled in the Indian Head district. Walter attended school in Indian Head and enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1943, taking his basic and advanced training in Shilo, MB. From there Walter went to Europe serving in Holland, Belgium, France and Germany from 1944-1946. Walter returned to Canada where he re-enlisted and married Alice Marie Gendron of Indian Head on September 20th 1949. He was stationed in Churchhill, Calgary, Wainwright and Edmonton where he retired from the Military in 1968, returning with their family to their home town of Indian Head finding work in the community. Walter continued to serve his community as he did his country belonging to the Legion branch #411 (lifetime member for over 50 years), Air Cadets Squadron #691, Shriners and Lions. For his outstanding service he has received countless military/Legion metals and awards. Not to mention his volunteer work to anyone needing a helping hand with countless projects including, cabarets, golf tournaments, meals on wheels etc. Walter was predeceased by his loving wife Alice Ayers June 10, 1999. Brothers John, Keith, Orville and sisters Phyllis, Esther and Shirley. He is survived by sister Dorothy, brothers Jay and Arliegh. He is survived by five children Charlotte (Ken), Fred (Susan), Paulette (Morley), Raymond (Donna) and Dale (Leanne). Grandchildren Tanis, Craig (Amanda), Tammy (Neil), Scott (Onedia), Amy (Brent), Kelly (Dean), Jeremy, Trent (Erin), Keith (Christianne), Kendra (Kevin), MacKenzie (J. R.) and April. Great grandchildren Skyler (MacKenzie), Payton, Kayla (Braeden), Ryder, Caydon, David, Selena, Blair, Isaac, Travis, Meagan, Clay, Dayanna, Zak, Owen, Alex, Allyssa, Layton, Taylor, Sara, Logan, Hanna, Emma, Atlan and Grayson. Walter will be dearly missed by his family, friends and community. His generosity, humour and whit will never be forgotten.
