About the Ellis surname
The surname Ellis has a primarily toponymic formation. The form of Ellis is compatible with several Arabic or North African surname traditions. Its precise meaning depends on the language, particle, and underlying name. The surname may therefore originally have identified a person by place of origin, residence, or a feature of the landscape. Families bearing the same surname may nevertheless come from different places when more than one locality produced a similar name.
