Our history

For decades, the Drouin Genealogical Institute has gathered, preserved and digitized exceptional collections. Genealogy Quebec grew from this commitment to making that heritage accessible to as many people as possible.

1899

The Drouin Genealogical Institute was founded in 1899, when Joseph Drouin established Les Généalogies Drouin. By 1937, he had produced more than 1,500 family genealogies, helping establish genealogical research in Quebec.

1938

In 1938, Gabriel Drouin expanded the Institute by launching the microfilming of Quebec civil registers. His work led to the Drouin Kardex, 2,366 parish register microfilms, and the Dictionnaire national des Canadiens français.

1997

Jean-Pierre Pépin acquires the Drouin Institute. Over the following ten years, he and the next generation begin the Institute’s transition to digital technology.

Today

The Drouin Genealogical Institute's collections are now available through Genealogy Quebec and continue to grow, preserving Quebec's genealogical heritage.
