HYODO, Hide SHIMIZU Passed away peacefully at Carleton Lodge, Nepean, on Sunday, August 22, 1999, at age 91. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Rev. Kosaburo Shimizu. Dear stepmother of the late Victor Shimizu (Mio) of Winnipeg, Ted Shimizu (Shiz) of Nepean, Grace Arai (Tsuguo) of Anchorage, and Dorothy Shigeishi (Ron) of Ottawa. Lovingly remembered by her brother Yosh Hyodo of Brantford, sister Chiyo Kumagai (John) of London, sisters-in-law Sachi Hyodo of Hamilton and Blanche Hyodo of Toronto, and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Known throughout her life for her leadership and involvement in the Japanese Canadian community and the United Church, Hide was recognized with numerous awards including the Order of Canada in 1982 for her outstanding achievement as supervisor of classroom teachers in the towns and camps where Canadians of Japanese ancestry were relocated during the Second World War.
