About the Benjamin-St-Aubin surname
The surname Benjamin-St-Aubin has an onomastic interpretation that still needs to be placed in the history of each family line. The form of Benjamin-St-Aubin is compatible with French surname tradition. It may derive from an old given name, a place, a nickname, an occupation, or a regional variant; the historical form of the family line is needed to distinguish between these possibilities. This interpretation helps explain the formation of the surname without establishing the origin of any particular family line. Benjamin-St-Aubin is a compound or hyphenated surname. For a particular family line, early records can show whether this form was long established or resulted from the joining of two surnames later in the family's history. In the normalization used for some LAFRANCE searches, the surname is also matched through the form “benjamin staubin”; this search variant can be useful when accents, spaces, or punctuation differ.
