About the Preston surname
The surname Preston has a primarily toponymic formation. The surname form is consistent with an English surname of geographical or toponymic origin. The surname may therefore originally have identified a person by place of origin, residence, or a feature of the landscape. Families bearing the same surname may nevertheless come from different places when more than one locality produced a similar name.
