About the Tonelli surname
The surname Tonelli has a primarily toponymic formation. The surname form is characteristic of Italian naming traditions; the suffix may have patronymic, diminutive, or regional value. The surname may therefore originally have identified a person by place of origin, residence, or a feature of the landscape. Families bearing the same surname may nevertheless come from different places when more than one locality produced a similar name.
