Doug was one of the patriarchs of the Bannerman/Clark Christmas Day dinner for 30 years. A passionate and remarkable man. Doug was a rebel, defender of social justice, humorist, wild and crazy at times, and a sensitive and compassionate man and a true friend to the poor. Many freezing nights he went out to give a blanket to a homeless person or coffee and was well known on cash corner for his gift of friendship, socks, a bus ticket or coffee card. He lived a adventurous life of travel, riding motorcycles, Attended Mount Royal at 50 with a grade 8 education and then began working with mentally handicapped people. Previously he was a roofer, who some said he was the best in Calgary. Great humanitarian at home, in India, Central America and his beloved Haiti - 18 trips. Shipping tons of clothes and medical supplies to Haiti and Brazil out of his garage. His daily goal was to bring a smile or a laugh to everyone's face.
