Kazoleas, Peter On July 28th, 2017, Peter Kazoleas of Edmonton passed away peacefully at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his mother Stavrula, father Antonios, sister Maria, brothers Dimitrios (Jim), Constantine (Connie), George and Emmanouil and nephews George and Christopher. Peter was born on August 15, 1925 in Agios Nicholas, Messinia, Greece. After fighting in the Greek Civil war, he married Angeliki in 1950 but decided to leave Greece for Canada at the end of his army service, arriving in Edmonton in 1953. Like many other new immigrants before him, Peter worked as a manual labourer in the first years though unlike most, he was an ambitious man who disliked working for others, eventually owning several successful businesses over his lifetime. With his encouragement, his brothers, George, Jim and Connie also emigrated to Canada in the mid to later 1950's and together they worked for various employers including for NORAD on the cold war Dew Line before starting the White Bull restaurant in Drayton Valley. In 1961 Peter moved to Chicago, Illinois with his second wife, Mary, where he worked as an air conditioning technician for some years. They returned to the Drayton Valley area in the 1970's to eventually open the Lighthouse Restaurant in Entwistle. Taking great pride in his Greek heritage, Peter participated in various organizations in the Hellenic community. In his retirement he spent many hours at Kingsway Garden Mall talking with his Greek friends who provided him with a great sense of friendship and community. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children Tony, Dean, Stephanie and Veronica; grandchildren Carley, Alex, Ethan and Madeline; sister in laws Despina, Ruth, Tula and Beverly as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
