Gordon Garfield Dorcas June 15, 1944 - February 1, 2019 It is with sadness the family of the late Gordon 'Gordie' Garfield Dorcas announces his passing on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on June 15, 1944 in Fredericton, NB and raised in Williamsburg, NB, he was a son of the late Douglass and Blanche (Clarkson) Dorcas. Gordie was a heavy equipment mechanic by trade. He had a passion for his work and a generous nature. He could be found fixing a friend or neighbour's machine or tinkering with his 1975 Comet GT. Gordie was a rural adventurer. He would pack up on a weekend morning to go for a drive. He would see a house in the distance and just had to find out what road it was on. He also loved to spend time in the woods. His ideal weekend was spent at the camp. He was never happier than when he was surrounded by his 4 grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as Poppy. His idea of relaxing was clearing a new road using his tractor, felling trees to be split for his furnace or four wheeling with his family then he would sit for five minutes. He loved to laugh and share good stories which he did most mornings with his buddies at the Main Street Tim Hortons. Gordie is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Beryl (Walton) Dorcas; their daughter, Kelly (Michael Gemmell) of Douglas and son, Andrew (Lorna King) of Penniac; granddaughters, Morrígan and Portia Gemmell; grandsons, Anderson and Charlie Dorcas; one sister, Margery Hay of Sussex; one brother, Keith (Cheryl) of Fredericton; two brothers-in-law, Bob Walton (Elizabeth) of Fredericton and Byron Walton (Teresa) of St. John; special nephew, niece and sisters in law, Derek (Janet) Dorcas, Tanya Kelly, Joan Walton and Rachel Gillies: several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, William Bill Dorcas; two sisters, Marion Gullison (Merle) and Ina MacLean (Walter), and brother-in-law, Ernest Hay. There will be no visitation; a celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the IWK Children's Hospital or to the Kingsley United Church. The arrangements are under the care and direction of York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB.
