Nestman, Sister Josephine Martha CND Sister St. Josephine Maria of the Congregation of Notre Dame died peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital on Monday, June 3, 2019 in her ninety-second year. Sister Josephine was born in Vermilion Alberta, the youngest daughter of Peter Nestman and Maria Chesney. She is predeceased by her parents, her four brothers and eight sisters and is fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, members of her religious community, former students and collaborators in ministry. Moving to Toronto in 1938, Josephine was educated in the local elementary schools and Notre Dame High School. In 1947 she entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in Montreal making religious profession in 1949. Thus began a teaching career in both elementary and high school that started out in Brockville ON and took her to other places in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. She was principal at St. Theresa's School in Ottawa and St. Mary's School, Kingston and Diocesan Director of Religious Education in Kamloops B. C. After twenty-three years in the West, mainly in Parish Ministry, Sister Josephine returned to Ontario to be of service to her religious community. When Notre Dame Residence closed in 2012 she retired and moved to the Conservatory Pond Retirement Residence, Kingston and later moved to the Sisters of Providence Motherhouse. Friends will be received at the Township Chapel of Gordon F. Tompkins 435 Davis Drive, (Taylor Kidd Blvd and Centennial Drive) on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and from 7:00-8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Church, 392 Palace Road on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 10:30 am. Rite of Committal will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston, ON.
