Over the course of February 2017, an important update was applied to the PRDH database.

This update wraps up the 1800-1824 period as far as Family Reconstructions are concerned, something we began working on in 2013.

February 2017 update

In total, 27 792 individuals and 18 183 couples totaling for over 150 000 familial links were added to the database through this update.

Since the Drouin Genealogical Institute became the PRDH’s editor in 2014, the following additions have been made to the database:

• 1 700 000 new baptism, marriage and burial certificates
• 60 000 new couples
• 345 000 new individuals
• Over a million new links between families and individuals

What’s next?

We are currently beginning to apply the family reconstruction process on the 1825-1849 period, which represents about as many records, individuals and families as the entire 1621-1824 period put together.

The bimonthly LAFRANCE update was applied earlier in the week.

The additions pertain to the 1850-1861 period for baptisms and burials as well as the entirety of 1916 for Catholic marriages.

• Catholic baptisms 1850-1861 : 10193 records added
• Catholic burials 1850-1861 : 4306 records added
• ALL Catholic marriages of 1916 : 14622 records added

In addition, the corrections sent by our users over the past 2 months have been applied.

Over the past 2 months, more than 20 000 death notices have been added to our free obituary section. This section contains close to 2 million Canadian obituaries ranging from 1999 to this day. You can browse the collection free of charge at this address:

Roots Tech 2017

From February 8 to February 11 2017, the Drouin Institute team was in Salt Lake City for Roots Tech 2017, the largest genealogy conference in North America. We would like to thank the numerous GenealogyQuebec.com and PRDH subscribers who visited our booth at the expo hall.

Roots Tech proved to be an amazing opportunity for us to meet many prominent genealogy firms and societies from around the world. Talks with some of our French cousins and neighbors from the South were particularly promising and inspiring.
We also had the pleasure of running into our Canadian countrymen from the Ontario Genealogical Society, who were kind enough to invite us to their annual conference. The conference will be held in Ottawa from June 16 to June 18 2017.
We wont miss it!

We sincerely believe that the connections made at Roots Tech this year will prove instrumental in speeding up the development of our collections, which will allow us to provide more comprehensive tools and databases to our subscribers.

This edition of our newsletter will focus on the development of Genealogy Quebec, the Drouin Institute’s primary genealogical research website.

1850-1861

Close to 330 000 baptism and burial records from the 1850-1861 period have been added to the LAFRANCE in the past few months. We estimate that this represents about a third of all records for this period. The additions are made through our bimonthly update and will continue until the period is concluded.

The LAFRANCE is an index with link to the original document of ALL catholic marriages celebrated in Quebec between 1621 and 1915, ALL catholic baptisms and burials celebrated in Quebec between 1621 and 1849, and ALL protestant marriages celebrated in Quebec between 1760 and 1849. Acadian families

Last spring, a database of Acadian records and families was added to Genealogy Quebec. This database covers over 40 000 families, and provides a link to the original document from which the data is sourced. This tool is available to Genealogy Quebec subscribers and can be accessed from the tool list.

Rebranding

You may have noticed a logo change on the English version of Genealogy Quebec. When the site was first translated years ago, Quebec Records was chosen as the official name.
Over the years, we realized that having a different name for the French and English versions created confusion among our users. Thus, Quebec Records has been rebranded in Genealogy Quebec. The content of the website remains unchanged.
Also note that you can now use the http://genealogyquebec.com URL to be redirected to the english version of the website directly.

Over a year ago, the PRDH began the ambitious project of extending the period covered by its family reconstructions from 1621-1799 to 1621-1849.

The first step, which was completed in early 2015, was the addition of 1 700 000 baptism, marriage and burial records, all from the 1800-1849 period. These were sourced from the Drouin Collection, which is available on Genealogy Quebec.
The second phase of this project began with the addition of the children born and/or deceased between 1800 and 1824 to the families created before 1800. This process was completed last April and represented over 250 000 new genealogical links in our family reconstructions.

What’s next?

Our plan is to complete the reconstruction of families up to the year 1824 by the end of 2016. All in all, this should represent about 350 000 new individuals, 60 000 new families and close to a million new genealogical links in the database.

Today, we are happy to announce our new communication strategy. The main objective of this new approach is to keep you better informed of the development and maintenance of the Drouin Institute and its websites, Genealogy Quebec and the PRDH.

This new communication strategy starts with a bimonthly newsletter published on our facebook page and through our mailing list. In addition to this newsletter, all of our releases, updates and partnerships will be shared with our clients through email and social media.

This newsletter will also correspond with bimonthly updates to our websites. An update usually consists of the addition of new content to the websites, and the correction of various errors that have been highlighted by our users.
